The Board of Directors has announced that our
Affiliate will begin taking applications for a house to be constructed in 2014. The most likely place for this house
will be Fergus Falls, but there is always a chance that another location may come about -- particularly if a home is donated
to the Affiliate.
To apply click the link below and complete the application and mail the
signed original to the Affiliate. Do not include anything that is not a copy. We will not return your copies,
nor will we make copies for you. Consider that your first bit of "sweat equity" on the house. Please do not send
original tax statements, insurance information or pay stubs. Make sure that you sign the application in ink. Always
include both your cell phone number and an e-mail address.
The review process takes several
months and includes a home visit and several personal interviews. If selected for the home you are expected to participate
in fund raising efforts that do include informing the public that you are the new "Habitat family." If you would be
uncomfortable with that role it would be best not to apply. Likewise, our families must provide 500 hours of "sweat
equity" on the home. If you are handicapped and can not perform construction tasks, you will still be required to provide
up to 500 hours of non-construction work. Veteran's with honorable discharges are strongly urged to apply.
Our warehouse is now located at 421 W. Fir in the basement of the former Steve's Cycle Building, across the street from
the Otter Tail County Government Center. We are open 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Our big day for distributing
materials and approving new projects is Saturday. We open at 9 a.m. and stay open until Noon. We are always looking
for donations of building materials. Please call before stopping by with your donation.
Volunteers for A Brush with Kindness Projects Needed Every Day, Every Hour
The Fergus Falls Area Habitat for Humanity Affiliate
completed more A Brush With Kindness projects, by itself, than ALL other rural Minnesota Habitat for Humanity Affiliate's
COMBINED! That means that we are going to need some people to step up and give us a hand. You don't have to spend a
whole day, or even climb on a roof, we can use people at the ground level as well. Give our office a call if you, or your
group, would like to "brush with kindness" a local family.
We have had Church Groups,
Mens Groups, Womens Groups, college students, high school students, 4H, FFA, Boy Scouts, Brownies (yes, we can find something
for ANY age group) come and "Brush with Kindness." We have ramps to build, windows to replace, siding to be replaced.
Right now, we have an exciting opportunity to deconstruct a house. We will be
harvesting the siding, windows, doors, trim, appliances, vanities, copper pipe, wire, for either immediate use in our A Brush
with Kindness program, or for sale at new warehouse at 1616 South Pebble Lake Road in Fergus Falls.
Need home repair? Painting?
Light construction? We have a program that is sponsored by the Otter Tail County United Way and the Richland /
Wilkin County United Way called "A Brush with Kindness." Your project may qualify. Click on the application bar to download.
Original, signed, hard copies must be mailed or dropped off, no digital or email copies allowed.
