GROUND BREAKING ON NEW HOUSE ON MAY 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lydia Lane site. We will be celebrating the beginning
of a new home for Chuck and Sally Evrist. Chuck is a retired navy Chief Gunnery Sargent and was originally interested
in our new Veteran's program. Now he and Sally will help us build their new home.
We are excited
to have this ground breaking ceremony on Armed Services Day! This year we are really trying to focus on helping veterans.
We have already helped on veteran with new flooring to replace their carpet because of allergies, and another veteran
has completely remodeled their house using a variety of materials we provided free of charge thanks to donations from YOU
our sponsors, and the Home Depot stores in Bemidji and Fergus Falls.
If you know of a veteran
that needs some materials or assistance for home repair, send them to us! We are going to try to help as many veterans
as we can. We would really like to work with more Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans, and more disabled veterans from
any era.
Thanks to our volunteers Laura and John we have a new sign at our new warehouse location at 1616 South Pebble Lake Road.
We are in the same building as Brad's Welding. Its a great location! We are open every Saturday at 9 a.m.
till Noon. But call anytime and we can try to meet you at the warehouse. Its only a few blocks from our offices
in the Church of Peace Methodist Church at 1500 South Cascade Street.
The Fergus Falls offices of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, including Steven J. Gundersen, Julius Patrick Stender,
and Kurt A. Nygaard completed a new access ramp for the family of Travis and Becky Boyd on September 11th. It was a
great day of demonstrating the power of the shared values of Thrivent and Fergus Falls Area Habitat for Humanity Affiliate.
We thank Thrivent, our local Thrivent reps. and all the volunteers. Plus we thank our donors, like you, that make
this all possible.
Home Depot and Habitat for Humanity announce a grant to Fergus Falls Habitat for Humanity
for up to $15,000 in home repair for a local veteran. The home must be owned and inhabited by a board-approved family. The
owner need not be the veteran; however, the veteran must be living in the home as his or her primary residence.
Volunteers for A Brush with Kindness Projects Needed Every Day, Every Hour
The Fergus Falls Area Habitat for Humanity Affiliate
completed more A Brush With Kindness projects, by itself, than ALL other rural Minnesota Habitat for Humanity Affiliate's
COMBINED! That means that we are going to need some people to step up and give us a hand. You don't have to spend a
whole day, or even climb on a roof, we can use people at the ground level as well. Give our office a call if you, or your
group, would like to "brush with kindness" a local family.
We have had Church Groups,
Mens Groups, Womens Groups, college students, high school students, 4H, FFA, Boy Scouts, Brownies (yes, we can find something
for ANY age group) come and "Brush with Kindness." We have ramps to build, windows to replace, siding to be replaced.
Right now, we have an exciting opportunity to deconstruct a house. We will be
harvesting the siding, windows, doors, trim, appliances, vanities, copper pipe, wire, for either immediate use in our A Brush
with Kindness program, or for sale at new warehouse at 1616 South Pebble Lake Road in Fergus Falls.
Need home repair? Painting? Light
construction? We have a program that is sponsored by the Otter Tail County United Way and the Richland / Wilkin County
United Way called "A Brush with Kindness." Your project may qualify. Click on the application bar to download. Original,
signed, hard copies must be mailed or dropped off, no digital or email copies allowed.
