Underwood Ground Breaking Ceremony Held June 5, 2010
A pleasant rain fell on the participants
at the Underwood Ground Breaking Ceremony on Saturday, June 5, on Water Street Road. Leading the ground breaking activity
was our President Shirley Seyfried, in the photo from left to right are:
Betty Brockopp (our office
assistant), Pam Stempfley, Pastor Scott Mikkelson, Shirley Seyfried (in blue jacket), Marcus (apparently hiding from mosquitos),
Timothy, Morgan (looking like he is thinking about where his bedroom will be), Carole Larson, Gary Jennen, Keith Stempfley
(homeowner-to-be), Jamie, Ron Melius (probably wondering when all of the materials in his warehouse are going to go).
Richard Kurowski Benefit
A benefit for our beloved Site Supervisor Richard Kurowski was recently
held in Wahpeton. The Knights of Columbus showed everyone how to conduct a fund raising event with a Silent Auction,
meal, many drawings, and great comraderie. We are supporting Richard in his battle against cancer. He continues
to be a valuable part of our affiliate. He became a part of the Family Selection Committee this year, participating
in the work to select a new family for Underwood. He also has already been out to the new construction site and given
us his valuable insight.
This photo shows Craig giving Richard an award for his years
of service, and the Board's thanks and encouragement for many more years of serving the mission together.

Underwood House Fund Raising
We are going to post updates to this thermometer every time
a donation is made for these houses. Watch the Battle Lake Review / Underwood Independent for information as well. When
we raise the first $25,000 for a house (hopefully by July 4) we will begin construction of a new house.
Volunteer
Group of the Year

backbone of our volunteer effort. They built the Thrivent house, they built the
Vining house, they have harvested materials, and completed “Brush with Kindness”
projects.

law firm of Pemberton, Sorlie, Rufer, Kershner PLLP.They have been our source
of legal advice and
support since 1991.We especially want
to recognize Robert Bigwood for his years of dedicated service to our
affiliate.
Our Habitat for Humanity Affiliate operates in western Otter Tail, Grant, Wilkin counties of Minnesota, and Richland
County, North Dakota. We are always looking for volunteers so check out the Current Volunteer Calendar page.

Habitat Hammer Mini Golf at Summerfest - over 170 kids played
We are going to begin construction of new, slab-on-grade houses in Elbow Lake and Underwood in 2010. We will
begin construction once the first $25,000 is raised for each house. We hope to begin shortly after July 4th, but that
means that we are going to need to raise money starting right now. We are also looking for material donations for these
houses. Shortly, we will be posting a material's list with prices, if you wish to specify specifically what your donation
is to be used for you will be able to do it.

Looking for any experts or skilled amateurs in slab-on-grade concrete
foundation construction. We are going to be using slab-on-grade foundations for the Underwood house. Any one with
power trowel equipment, magnesium floats, or power screeds is encouraged to contact our office. Also looking for light
excavation work to dig the foundation trenches. This trench will be 4' deep and 5' wide around the perimeter.
